Pt Reyes, March 2013
First trip of the season! First trip without a tent! Exciting stuff all around. The weather tested our wisdom of going without a tent by providing some very high winds and minimal shelter at Wildcat Beach, though we were pleased to see that the tarps held up just fine, and did an excellent job of blocking the wind. On the second night we completely dispensed with the tarps and enjoyed an unobstructed view of the stars any time we opened our eyes- or at least when we had our glasses on. Getting my base pack weight down to just over 11 lbs was a good feeling, particularly when going up hills! The trails and views at Pt Reyes are certainly top notch, even if the camp sites left a bit to be desired in terms of the availability of flat ground. The only major technical challenge was that the alcohol for my stove didn't want to light, though Omi was kind enough to share his even if it meant a bit of rationing. Very nice place to spend a weekend.
