Emigrant Wilderness, August 2012
Despite starting my backpacking hobby with a Sierra Club class in 2010, it was not until this trip that I actually joined the them on an outing. For this trip, Renee took us- Dave, Aman, Nora, Taisiya, Jas, Navtej, and myself -on an excellent tour of the Emigrant Wilderness. We all met up Friday night and car camped at the Pinecrest campground, which was packed with all sorts of groups. On Saturday morning as we drove towards the trail head, it was a little disheartening to see the amount of rain that was falling, though by the time we actually hit the trail it had tapered off and we stayed quite comfortable with just the occasional light rain. There was much discussion throughout the day regarding whether or not we would get a decent sunset. Jas kept reassuring us that we would, and wow she was right! While the light clouds definitely improved the sunset, they meant that my plans for capturing star trails had to be modified a bit- that's okay, though, more time to sleep! The next morning I didn't make it out of the tent in time for sunrise; too bad as the water was perfectly still making for some amazing reflections. Our hike out was essentially the reverse of the way in, albeit without the off-trail section. Great trip and I am looking forward to further exploration of the area!
